Since it first began sending U.S. students to study in the Soviet Union over 40 years ago, American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS has developed unmatched expertise in the design and administration of overseas educational programs, collaborative partnerships with hundreds of educational institutions throughout the world, and an extensive network of more than 25 overseas offices staffed by more than 400 host country nationals and expatriates in Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Southeast Asia, and Southeast Europe. Today, almost 2,000 students study abroad with American Councils each year on programs ranging in length from two weeks to nine months.
Depending on the needs and interests of our U.S. partners, American Councils is prepared to create discrete, individualized programs for sending institutions according to their specifications, or to arrange supplemental services to support already existing programs. Experienced American Councils staff is glad to collaborate directly with study abroad offices, individual faculty, and senior administrative officers in the design and administration of overseas programs.

Overall Program Design
With 28 overseas offices and 400 host-country nationals and expatriate staff members in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, American Councils is well-equipped to help design an overseas program for your students.
American Councils can assist in determining program length, budget, structure, coursework, academic credit, and appropriate cultural activities or community service components.
American Councils can identify host-country institutions, arrange guest lecturers and classes, and can assist with U.S. academic credit based on the needs of the program. American Councils can also connect U.S. faculty with local leaders, government officials, NGO representatives, journalists, and other leading professionals to provide enriching dialogue on any subject matter.
Cultural Activities and Community Engagement
Outside of the classroom, American Councils can arrange local excursions and/or extended travel to historical and cultural sites in the host country. In order to maximize engagement with the host-country culture, American Councils can also arrange film series, discussion clubs, and meetings with local students, faculty, and professionals.
American Councils can arrange affordable housing options for participants on faculty-led and customized programs, including experienced host families, university dormitories, hotels, and youth hostels.
American Councils can provide detailed pre-departure materials for faculty and students; conduct comprehensive pre-departure and in-country orientations; assist with visa processing; arrange in-country and cross-border travel, airport transfers, communications, and meals; and enroll all participants in comprehensive overseas health, accident, and evacuation insurance. While abroad, American Councils provides 24-hour emergency support.
