Spring 2021 Overseas and Online Programs

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, American Councils is offering its Spring 2021 language programs as both overseas and online options. Applicants interested in remote study abroad can connect with host country faculty and peers through one of the virtual opportunities available for the Spring 2021 semester. American Councils will be offering the following programs overseas for Spring 2021:


Online Programs

Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP)

RLASP offers intensive Russian language instruction paired with virtual cultural activities and excursions all conducted in Russian. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level Russian instruction or the equivalent. This spring we are also offering a Part-Time Track for students who are looking to take part in all of the activities normally offered as part of RLASP, but with fewer weekly hours to accommodate a variety of schedules. Balkan Language Initiative (BLI)

BLI offers the intensive instruction of Albanian and Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian (BCS). All participants also take part in a variety of cultural activities and excursions conducted in the target language. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level instruction or the equivalent in the target language or a related language. Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP)

ERLP offers the intensive instruction of Dari, Farsi, Georgian, Pashto, Romanian, Tajiki, and Uzbek. All participants also take part in a variety of cultural activities and excursions conducted in the target language. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level instruction or the equivalent in the target language, Russian, or a related language. Study Two Languages on ERLP

Participants on the either the online or hybrid ERLP program have the option to split their language instruction hours between their selected target language and Russian or another language offered at their program site. Language instruction is split either 50%-50% between the two languages or as 75% of the target language – 25% of the additional language.
