Summer 2020 Online Programs

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, American Councils suspended all AC Study & Research Abroad overseas programs for Summer 2020. While our overseas programs will not be running as planned this summer, American Councils is pleased to offer the following programs online for the Summer 2020 term:

Program Descriptions

Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP)
RLASP offers intensive Russian language instruction paired with virtual cultural activities and excursions through either our host institutions in Russia or our host institution in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level Russian instruction or the equivalent. Balkan Language Initiative (BLI)
BLI offers the intensive instruction of Albanian, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian (BCS), or Macedonian. All participants also take part in a wide variety of cultural activities and excursions conducted in the target language. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level instruction or the equivalent in the target language or a related language. Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP)
ERLP offers the intensive instruction of Dari, Farsi, Georgian, Kazakh, Romanian, Tajiki, Ukrainian, and Uzbek. All participants also take part in a wide variety of cultural activities and excursions conducted in the target language. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters of college-level instruction or the equivalent in the target language, Russian, or a related language. Peace & Security in the South Caucasus (PSSC)
Taught in English, this program explores cultural identity and nationalism, development strategies, the emergence of new political systems and parties, and ongoing efforts to foster peace throughout the South Caucasus. Participants also take language courses in Armenian, Azerbaijani, Chechen, Georgian, or Russian (taught at all levels). Politics & Public Diplomacy in Contemporary Russia (PPD)
Taught in English, this program is designed to provide participants new insights into Russian politics and diplomacy through an exploration of its history, economics, arts, societal issues, mass media, and popular culture.
